Founded in 1884, dedicated to academic excellence for more than 130 years, Bangor University is one of the oldest and most prestigious degree awarding institutions in the UK. We have over 11,000 students and over 650 teaching staff based in 23 Academic Schools grouped into five Colleges.

Restrictions
Exchange students may not take courses from the following:

Ivey Business School*, Faculty of Law*, Professional Programs in the Schulich School of Medicine and Dentistry; Professional Programs in the Faculty of Health Science

*these faculties maintain their own exchange agreements. Check with your international/study abroad office at your home University to determine if an exchange agreement with these faculties exists.

Preference to Kinesiology students, but all undergraduate students enrolled in the faculty/faculties listed above can apply.

Course restrictions

How many credits do I need to earn?

60 Bangor credits = 30 ECTS = 2.5 Western credits (students going for 1 term)
*Students must take a minimum of 50 Bangor credits, and no more than 60 Bangor credits in 1 term.

120 Bangor credits = 60 ECTS = 5.0 Western credits (students going for 1 year)
*Students must take no more than 120 Bangor credits over a 1 academic year.

 

 

Grading system

 

Courses at Bangor University, called modules, are measured using credit points. Based on the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS), Bangor credits can be calculated as follows:

1 ECTS = 2 Bangor credits

Bangor credits can be converted to Western credits as follows:

6 ECTS = 12 Bangor credits = 0.5 Western credits, the equivalent of one term course at Western.

Winter term: Mid January - Beginning of June

Academic calendar

Tuition Fees are paid to Western.

Exchange students may apply to live on-campus or off-campus once accepted into the program, although on-campus accommodation is not guaranteed unless students from the Americas apply before the relevant deadline. Students who do not receive an invitation for on-campus accommodation will be emailed the list of off-campus housing options upon releasing of the on-campus housing allocation results.

Living costs students incur depend on lifestyle choices. Estimated living expenses are based on the costs of accommodation, food, transportation, personal expenses, textbooks etc. As a guide, prepare to spend £900- £1100 per month, for a single student living in the Bangor area.
